Dental Bonding

A dentist applying a curing light during a dental bonding procedure on a smiling female patient in a modern dental office. When it comes to cosmetic dentistry, there are few treatments that offer the same combination of effectiveness, affordability, and speed as tooth bonding does. Dental bonding done by Riverstone Dental Group can upgrade the aesthetics of your smile.

Dental Bonding Basics

Bonding is a cosmetic treatment designed to remove and conceal minor aesthetic damage. Using a putty-like composite resin, we alter it so that it is the same shade as your teeth and then bond it to your damaged teeth. By doing this, we can get rid of everything from jagged chips to small gaps. Bonding is completely non-invasive and extremely low-impact, so if you decide to switch to a different cosmetic treatment, such as getting the tooth crowned or veneered, then the bonding can be easily reversed.

Why We Recommend Tooth Bonding

Bonding can fix a whole range of small cosmetic defects. While bonded resin cannot repair severe or extensive damage, it can correct many minor cosmetic issues. It can even out tooth length, fill small cavities, conceal light stains, and smooth hairline cracks.

Are There Alternatives to Bonding?

Dental bonding may sound similar to getting a filling, having an inlay or onlay placed, or receiving other treatments capable of correcting minor issues. You may be uncertain which one is best for you, especially when it can seem like there are more similarities than differences, so we want to help. We are always happy to arrange a consultation so we can provide you with all the information necessary regarding the options available to you. Though tooth bonding can also be restorative, it is primarily ideal for cosmetic purposes. If you are looking to fix an unhealthy tooth, then a crown or a filling may be more effective. If you are looking for a more extensive cosmetic upgrade, then veneers are probably the better option.

Your Bonding Treatment

One of the strengths of a bonding treatment is how quick it is. Bonding is designed for the on-the-go professional that may not have the time in their hectic schedules for something more time-consuming like veneers or even a crown. Typically, we can bond a tooth in less time than it takes to have your lunch break, making it easy to fit into any schedule. We start by adding composite resin to the damaged tooth. We take a bit of extra time on this step to make sure the resin blends in with your teeth so that even up close it is impossible to tell which teeth have been bonded. Once we are both satisfied with how it looks, a UV light will harden the resin so that it bonds to the tooth. As soon as the resin is hardened you can be on your way — no anesthetic, no surgery, not even sensitive teeth.
